If you are like many Americans, especially during these pandemic days, you probably enjoy shopping online. You may have even already bought a thing or two from Amazon. The nice thing about shopping at Amazon is that the majority of your purchases are delivered right to your door. And you have the personal satisfaction of obtaining something that is of benefit to you and maybe your family as well. Did you know that you could support other people (i.e. non-profit organizations that serve in your community) with your purchases at Amazon? And it doesn't even cost you extra for your items of interest!
If you already shop there but have not signed up for the SMILE program would you consider doing so? You can even monitor how much you donate with every purchase you make right on the website. The donations can add up rather quickly with the things you can buy there.
When you shop on AmazonSmile, the AmazonSmile Foundation donates 0.5% of your purchase price of eligible products to the charitable organization of your choice. The Friends of the New Hanover County Arboretum are members of this program. We are listed in AmazonSmile's database of charitable organizations. When you login using smile.amazon.com, in the upper left corner of the screen, you will notice the word SUPPORTING with a down arrow to the right of the word. Click on the down arrow and select "Friends of the New Hanover County Arboretum, Inc" and you're all set.
If you haven't shopped at Amazon, would you consider starting to do so in order to support the ARBORETUM in Wilmington? That being the case, just follow the instructions below to establish an account. Once set up, follow the instruction in the above paragraph regarding Amazon Smile.
Do you need a bit more direction that that? Our detailed, step-by-step instructions below, with pictures, can help you get on track.
Go to www.amazon.com in your web browser. Any browser will do, but for this tutorial, we’ll be using Google Chrome.
Move your mouse over Sign In until a drop-down menu appears, and then click Start Here.
You'll need to enter some information here. In the top set of boxes, click in the box marked "My Name Is" and type in your name. Then, click in each of the boxes marked "My Email Address Is" and "Type It Again" and type a copy of your email address into each. Then (if you want), click in the box marked "My Mobile Phone Number Is" and type in your cell phone number.
In the middle set of boxes, where it says "Enter A New Password" and "Type It Again," click in each of the boxes and type in a password that you want to use to secure your account with. (Both copies will appear as bullet points to keep others from spying them over your shoulder).
Now, click in the last box, where it says "Type Characters," and type in the letters and numbers that you see in the distorted image above the box. This is a security check to make sure that you're an actual person, and not a computer program trying to mass-produce fake accounts.
Finally, click the yellow Create Account button at the bottom of the form.
And that’s how you create an Amazon account! Now that you’re all signed up, consider reading the rest of our Amazon course step-by-step tutorials on how to buy, how to search for products, or how to get free shipping – all on Amazon.
